Statement from the RI State Nurses Association
Posted 2 days ago
The Rhode Island State Nurses Association is devastated by the tragic shooting at Brown University over the weekend. Our hearts are with the students whose lives were lost, those who were injured, their families, and the entire Brown University community. This loss is felt deeply and collectively.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Providence Police Department, first responders, and nurses who stand ready every day to care for others in moments of crisis and profound grief. Their commitment to compassion and service is a source of strength for our communities during times of unimaginable loss.
We also recognize that violence of this nature leaves lasting emotional impacts well beyond those directly involved. We encourage anyone struggling in the wake of this tragedy to seek support through available mental health resources and to lean on the community when needed:
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text BADGE to 988 anytime, day or night, to connect with trained counselors.
- BH Link: Rhode Island’s 24/7 behavioral health triage center. Call 401-414-LINK (5465) or visit their site for crisis intervention.
- Brown University Resources: Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) 401-863-3476 or counseling@health.brown.edu.
- Grief Counseling Support: Line of duty support can be reached at 855-970-3727.
For those who are able, donating blood is one meaningful way to support patients and hospitals in the days ahead. Local blood banks continue to welcome donors: https://www.ribc.org/donate-blood/. As nurses, we believe in caring for one another, especially in moments like these. We stand in solidarity with all those affected and remain committed to healing, compassion, and support for our state.
