Position Description

Description of duties:

  • Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Order, perform, and interpret tests and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients’ condition.
  • Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
  • Monitor patients’ conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
  • Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
  • Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
  • Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
  • Coordinate work with fellow Nurse Practitioners, staff physicians, medical director, nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologist, and other health care providers.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.
  • Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies
  • Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
  • Detect and respond to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, and older adults.
  • Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients’ individual circumstances.
  • Plan, implement, or administer health programs or standards in hospitals, businesses, or communities for prevention or treatment of injury or illness.
  • Peer review and quality improvement activities.
  • Collaborates cooperatively with all personnel of the agency.
  • Participates in after-hours call schedule.
  • Work within scope of training and experience and seek consolation when appropriate.
  • Attend supervision, trainings and other meetings as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Full unrestricted Rhode Island RN & NPP Licensure required.
  • National Board Certification.
  • Ongoing CME to update skills/therapies as per Rhode Island Department of Health.
  • Must have full prescriptive powers in Rhode Island with a DEA number.
  • Must meet Wood River Health Services credentialing requirements as required by FTCA.
  • Must pass a pre-employment health screening, TB test, and background check.
