Additional Information
Workplace Violence (WPV) against healthcare workers, including nurses, happens at an alarming rate. According to the ANA, 44% of nurses have experienced physical workplace violence (from patients) during their career. This offering will provide insight into the prevalence of WPV, what legislative protections exist in Rhode Island, what some employers are offering by way of additional training, and what your rights are. We will discuss, as a group, our experiences with WPV and high-risk, high-volume scenarios that place nurses at risk will be discussed. almost half of the class will be spent working in small groups, practicing techniques to use in these situations, with trained facilitators. We will debrief as a group. Thanks to our partnership with Providence College, we will have access to the state-of-the-art sim lab, and a light dinner will be served. This incredibly valuable training is crucial for any nurse, LPN, or CNA who provides care to patients in the acute care, subacute care, or emergency room setting.
**Please note, this course be focusing on how to mitigate high-risk, non-adherent behaviors in patients who are not suffering from psychiatric crisis. The speakers will not be covering therapeutic, specialized care of the mentally ill, psychiatric patients in an acute behavioral health setting, or pediatric patients.
